Kamisama no Memochou [ep 11-12 End]

I finally finished Kamisama! And what a finale- touched me so much. Well I didn’t shed any tear but that last scene, that revelation is so good.

Bit by bit the clues they find regarding Ayaka’s reason to jump are pretty intense. Never would’ve thought that Toshi is using his own sister to grow flowers for the ingredients of the drugs. Narumi’s outburst of anger towards Toshi in the end, watching him punch him continuously is kinda depressing. For Narumi to lay his fist on someone else, it has to be something really important for him. And Ayaka is a dear friend, maybe even more than just a friend and man…I really feel for him!

The final case is a good closure for the anime. I just never thought it’d actually involve Ayaka this much. But that’s what makes it even more exciting. Not to mention that Ayaka is forced to take the drugs that night just before she jumped. So she is under the influence of the drugs for jumping…but that’s not all. The final revelation makes the finale even more meaningful for some reason I can’t really describe. So after the case is solved and Angel Fix (the drug) is wiped out of the town, Ayaka stays in a coma. 

Then one day, Alice takes Narumi up to the top of the roof at school to witness something. When the sun rises, the long-headed poppy Ayaka has planted on the rooftop blooms into the exact same pattern Narumi has designed for the club. Alice explains that even though Ayaka might be drugged that very night, she still remembers Narumi and how the place is important for both of them – she jumped from there to stop the event from taking place at the rooftop. Watching that final scene melts my heart and it looks like Ayaka wakes up finally! One thing the show needs now is a happy ending and Ayaka definitely deserves to live her life again together with Narumi, just like how they started off in the first episode. I guess I’ll miss this show T_T

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 10]

I’m glad I didn’t give up on this anime. Well, considering how I’m engaged with dramas and other things called ‘life’, I was thinking should I stop watching, not to say it’s bad, actually I find myself rather immersed in it. It’s just that sometimes I have to find the mood and time to sit down and watch something without being distracted. But boy am I glad I didn’t stop halfway! This episode kinda just gave me a shock right at the very end, which I never saw coming and never thought would happen.

But before that, let’s recap…Ayaka’s long lost brother finally appears around the neighbourhood and god knows why nobody is bothered to find or keep him around back then. I mean, normally if someone close or your very own brother is gone for so long, one of the normal things is to do a police report right? Well as far as that’s concerned, I don’t think Ayaka did or her family did so the estranged brother is left wandering on his own. But I do pity Ayaka for not knowing that her beloved brother is actually a junkie all this while, when everybody else knows. To think that a stranger like Narumi knows more about her own brother – definitely heart-breaking.

The case this time revolves none other than the new drug in town, which has cost lives. Apparently, Toshi (Ayaka’s brother) is also using it, as witnessed by Narumi. Narumi’s only job or task is to keep it a secret from Ayaka, which proves to be real tough considering how Narumi’s nature isn’t to lie to someone else. However, to preserve Ayaka’s happiness, he does exactly that, but I’m sure Ayaka sees through him right from the start.

A month passed and Alice’s NEET group is still not making much progress in the case – I wonder what takes them so long this time. And during that course of time, Ayaka and Narumi goes on dwelling with their normal lives/daily activities/gardening club until one day they are told by a teacher to clear off the rooftop coz they need to use it for some function. And this is also the time when Ayaka overhears the group members discussing about the case, mentioning Toshi’s name.

This brings us to the ending of the episode – a shadow of a person fell down OR jump from the school rooftop. I’m still trying to figure out Ayaka’s motive if she actually jumps on her own accord, committing suicide doesn’t seem to be her characteristic, at least not to me. The news of her brother being a junkie hit her too hard that she has to blame everything on herself? Sure, her brother mentions how she can be annoying (is that the reason he leaves home?), it doesn’t make sense for her to end her life. What’s more dramatic is she lands on the bed of flowers, which is kinda symbolic, but how? This episode gives me the kind of lingering shock that I need to continue watching just to see if Ayaka is dead or not in the next episode. Because she’s definitely the last person in my mind to die off like that.

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 9]

Note: The last whole week I’ve been focusing on dramas because it’s mostly the finale week and there are only 2 dramas left which are still ongoing or reaching the final episode this week. For example, Don Quixote and Jiu – final episode’s coming up. As for Soredemo Ikite Yuku, it’s finished and I’ve basically seen till the finale, but haven’t blogged about it because I’d like to re-watch it with proper subtitles soon. So until the subs are out, I’ll be posting on the others first. The same goes for Zettai Reido, still awaiting subs.

Alice in action!

So time for some anime catch up! This episode of Kamisama is basically a filler. It’s got no case to work on or anything dramatic unless you consider a baseball match is. Well, nevertheless it’s still amusing. At least you get to see Alice clad in her baseball uniform with the cap and stepping out into the world in action! Rare scenes of course considering how she’s always cooped up in her air-conditioned room. 

I think how it all begins is quite hilarious. So the guys want to help save this arcade they’ve been frequenting from the boss who wants to raise the rent. And somehow, the baseball match they suggested is meant to be some arcade game using cards, but the boss has a whole different idea about it. In the end, they find themselves in a real baseball match against the boss’s team.

Most of them have no experience in baseball whatsoever but they all chip in their own ways. The girls become cheerleaders while Alice herself volunteers to be the coach. A coach who stays inside the car, with fully tinted glass, stuffed with soft toys. Yes, a coach like her will help them win the match lolz…(eyeroll)

Overall:

Despite the lack for a real case and drama, it's still a pretty good laugh, especially when Alice appears. Her antics with the soft toys and how she can't stand under the sun for too long are really quite entertaining. I'm not familiar with baseball so I can't really get the rules or what they're doing so maybe that's why I can't fully appreciate the tricks Alice and Narumi use to win the game.

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 6+7]

I finally caught up! I watched this non-stop coz it's pretty engaging especially the last 3 episodes. I'm just dying to know the history between The Fourth and Renji. I just thought it's still weird how Narumi ended up being sworn brothers with both of them, in similar style too! I knew there was some kind of misunderstanding that made Renji hate The Fourth so much, because The Fourth just seems too nice of a person, yes, he's a yakuza but some yakuzas are nice people.

As usual, it's up to Narumi and Alice to investigate the truth behind it all. Of course, it's nice though when the other members, Hiro, Tetsu and Shosa lend their hands/skillz  in without being ordered by Alice.It shows just how important The Fourth is to them. Which is why I can't believe that The Fourth actually used their friend, Hinso as a human shield in the past, as what Renji told Narumi.

The episode's pretty melodramatic and the brotherhood theme is the main focus. I feel like I'm watching some real drama or something between yakuzas. So, after prodding around a bit and hacking, it seems that they found the truth. Or at least, Alice seems to understand everything by the end of the episode. Argh...I have to wait till the next to find out. I can't figure out the truth yet. HInso was pregnant and that was one of the reasons she was killed by one of the yakuza leader's wife. But whose child was she pregnant with? The yakuza's or either one of The Fourth or Renji?

This is a pretty good case, well it's stretched up to 4 episodes (if it's gonna be done by the next). But it's not draggy, just nice to let u know in detail, and it contributes to character development too! Can't wait for the next epi! Looks like Renji made his move already! Rating: 8.5/10

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 5]

I don't know if Case no.4 is supposed to even be a case. The only thing that makes it half a case is the stealing of T-shirts by the culprits and beating of the promotion committees for this all girls band The Fourth has taken up on. But that aside, Alice is being a constant nuisance, in a nice way though. Yeah, she's childish and acts like a spoiled brat, but hey, she's still a kiddo! but it makes you wonder where her parents are, who exactly is she and who's paying for her rent and all? Okay, so maybe she gets paid for her detective jobs. 

But I'd like her true identity to be revealed soon enough because it's itching my brain to figure that out. Is she even human?! Well, it is pretty heart-warming though watching Narumi and the rest of the members take care of her, but funny how Narumi's been her fav ever since. Narumi's job includes: 

1. Sending meals up for her

2. Opening Dr Pepper cans for her because little girl's got insufficient energy to pop one

3. Washing her soft toys another chore for Narumi

Oh, can someone explain to me what exactly is Ayaka's role in this show other than being Narumi's classmate and working part-time with him at Master's ramen shop? Cause she doesn't seem to serve much purpose at all. Sure, she appears once in a while, leaves very little impression and it's as if, it doesn't make any difference whether she's even in the show at all. That said, I hope for more from her, probably her own arc soon, just like how Master's got hers in the previous episode.

Another addition to the weirdos in the show. Meet Renji, who Narumi meets at one of the clubs, before he caused a death possibility.

Oh by the way, who's the guy at the tailor's shop where Narumi bumped into The Fourth? The tailor is related to The Fourth? Coz he seems to know quite a lot about him. A close childhood friend, perhaps or something more than that? ummm....

Overall, the episode doesn't deliver much on the case, but watching Alice ranting about Narumi's responsibility of taking care of her and then blushing all of a sudden most of the time is still a pleasure. Nothing serious, but light comedy. The case's not over yet, so it'll be carried on to the next.

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 4]

Case no.3 focuses on Master or Min-san that operates the Hanamaru Ramen shop just below where Alice stays. The story's pretty much very predictable, since in the last episode, it was already hinted. But anyways, the plot goes something like this: A stranger comes and orders different types of ramen but only takes a sip, and leaves his pay on the table. Only ONE sip and this makes Master really frustrated, thinking her ramen is not up to his taste. Then, she forces Narumi to stay back to help her practice making the soup/ramen every single night.

That's not all. Another person apparently broke into her house everytime the stranger appears. They thought both of them are accomplices at first. Guess what the guy took from Master's shabby shop? Her sarashi. Sarashi is a type of long cotton cloth, tied around the chest area. Why sarashi? The guy is a pervert?!

Upon the Master's request, Alice begins her operation to hunt the culprits down. The guy who steals her sarashi happens to be this lingerie designer who can't bear watching somebody like Master, with huge boobs, keeping it all under the thick sarashi, instead of flaunting it with a bra.

Well, case almost closed with one culprit apprehended. So who's the stranger that never touches Master's ramen after taking a sip? Totally obvious. Her father sends a box of the ingredients for the soup/ramen with full recipe to Master one day.

And the final scene was really hilarious. The guy sends to each Master and Alice - the lingerie he designed. He claims to be able to tell the size just by looking.

The episode was really enjoyable though the Master's father part was totally predictable from the first 5 minutes. But the most wth part was the designer guy's reason for stealing Master's sarashi lolz...that was not what I expected.

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 2+3]

Case no.2 begins with a former yakuza running away from the bad guys, and then calls his daughter to escape with a bag at home. Her daughter, Meo, a half Thai, then goes to Alice, introduced by Hiro for help. The bag holds an alarming amount of 200 million yen and after an effortless search on the computer, thanks to hacker Alice, Meo's father was laundering money for a his former yakuza group as a condition for him to leave the business. However, something went wrong in between, and 100 million was missing.

Meo tries to solve the case by herself and arranges a meeting with the yakuza group. She wants to exchange money for her father, alive. But Narumi arrives in time before she was caught and the money lost into the wrong hands. Thanks to another Yakuza leader, the white haired guy, Souichirou or also known as The Fourth brother, brings along his gang to beat up the bad guys and saves both Meo and Narumi.

Narumi then decides to share sake or in other words, form brotherhood with The Fourth. How this came about was kinda beyond me though. Was it just out of gratitude for saving his life or really because he wished to be stronger in order to protect Meo? Befuddled.

Overall, it's a rather long case. I was thinking it'd be episodic, case per episode kind of theme, but it looks like it can stretch to two epis. The case wasn't as good or suspenseful as the first. Still, Narumi did contribute in solving it. Not much of Alice needed this time. But before ending the post, enjoy!

Kamisama no Memochou [ep 1]

A new anime I just randomly chose to watch. I normally just take a couple of those that interest me, watch one or two episodes and then decide whether it's intriguing enough for me to continue. Basically, this is one of those. My initial impression on this was a total blank, I have no idea what it's about, didn't bother to look it up or google bout it. But amazingly once they got over the initial introduction parts, halfway through the show (the first ep is like a full length drama ~ 45 mins), I find myself totally engaged in the plot, as well as the many characters they shove at your face in one go.

The story begins with a normal high schooler, Narumi who for some reason still unknown, seems to move from a place to another constantly with I presume, her sis? Anyways, the first day in Tokyo city, he stumbled into a group of guys at the back alley, looking all suspicious as if they were on a mission. The next day, he meets a classmate, Ayaka, an energetic girl, who dragged him into her Gardening Club, because nobody else is joining. 

Upon knowing her, Narumi is then introduced to her Master at this ramen store she is working in, Min-san. For some reason, she reminds me of Canaan's Alphard (my fav character there). They have similar hairstyle, sort of, and built. He also meets the rest of the NEET members, all of whom are school dropouts. They form NEET together with their Leader, Alice.

The team consists of Tetsu, who was Narumi's senpai until he dropped out. And then we have the most handsome of the lot, Hiro, who has the time to text two girls at once. Lastly, here's the only one who I thought was out of place, well wait until I come to Alice. But here's Shosa. Okay, no matter how you look at him, he does resemble an elementrary school kid right! But in reality, he's a university student, who has an obsession with all-things military. Probably his ambition, but couldn't pass the physical requirements? xD

Okay, just figured out where the NEET comes from. In full, it refers to "Not n Education, Employment or Training". Pretty neat huh? let's move on to the mastermind behind the group. So then before Narumi can even say no, he finds himself involved in their mission in the first episode. He is supposed to just send over Alice's meal, ramen without all other ingredients, except for the soup and leek. Go figure how she can survive with just that. Oh let's not forget Dr. Pepper! Funny...why do all the geniuses portrayed in anime recently have a liking for the drink? Remember Rintaro from Steins Gate? 

Speaking of which, I should finish Steins Gate after having put it on hold for ages.

Alice's apartment is cold (wonder how many air-cond she has installed in there), filled with teddy bears of all sorts, even the screensavers have them, a lot of computers, techie stuffs and a fridge filled with just Dr Pepper drinks (logo slightly different though).

Alice is the brain in NEET. She's just a kid, probably in elementary school, only if she's still eligible because when girls her age plays with soft toys, she finds comfort in working behind computers. Well, she still has a soft heart for teddies. Narumi though sees her as a hikkomori (a reclusive).

How many months/years have you not cut your hair?

Her apartment is the center of NEET, where all the information is gathered and the meeting is held before she orders the next move. Not much is known yet about her past, how she becomes this braniac little kid. Still, she's just a little kid who needs to be pushed to bath lol...

First episode was pretty good. Frankly, didn't expect much but it did surprise me with the tiny twist at the end of the mission. That was then that it kinda struck me that this show can be really good, despite the bunch of misfits. Alice gives me the impression of a socially awkward little sarcastic brat who thinks really highly of herself and lowly of others at first, but when she finally goes out into the world, dressed equipped with her teddy, to solve the case, that was when she makes me think twice of my judgement earlier.

Finally, this is one show I'm picking for the season. I have another 6 episodes to watch in order to catch up though...looks like I have tonnes of stuffs to watch for the next festive week!
