IS - Otoko demo Onna demo Nai Sei [ep 7]

This episode is again, a huge step up from the last. IMO, one of the best episode because it has a lot of things going on, so what I'm gonna do for this post is to separate them by parts. Now to make things easier to navigate and also clearer, for me at least, I'll be summarizing in several smaller sections. First up:

1. Crisis between Haru and Natsu
Sooooo glad that they make an arc for Natsu, who otherwise will just be an extra with no character development. Natsu's boyfriend sees Haru who has always been known as a boy in the neighbourhood, one day wearing a girl's uniform. That creeps him up and makes him wonder what's going on. Natsu has to struggle between protecting Haru, her brother's image as well as not losing her boyfriend. The issue then reaches its peak when their mother asks Natsu to just be honest about her constant 'extra lessons' and bring the boyfriend back to meet them instead of lying.

Natsu thought that Haru reveals her secret to their parents and accused him of being weird and embarrassing for her to bring the boyfriend back to their house.

Can I just say how MUCH I FEEL SORRY FOR HARU in this particular scene? This scene was pretty well done, so kudos to the writers. It's exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from Natsu, as a little sister to Haru who begins to feel the pressure of hiding the truth about her IS sibling from her peer. Natsu's character isn't wasted so that's good. The moment Natsu mentioned how it is embarrassing for her to bring her boyfriend back to see Haru, my heart went all out for Haru.

Innocently accused by Natsu

The only part I find a bit weird maybe would be how fast Natsu apologized to Haru for blurting all those bad words out. I was thinking "oh, that's fast"..but when I ponder about it more, it becomes more natural the way it went down. See, Natsu and Haru's bond is definitely stronger than anything else and Natsu has so much respect and love for Haru (we can see right from ep1), so the brief scene of the two siblings are nothing but sweet and heart-warming. It may seem bit rushed but I'm certain Natsu's boyfriend who has the weird hairstyle can not be compared to Haru in any way at all.

Can I envy the bond these two siblings have? xD

2. Crisis with the two monsters at school
Haru's enemies are all out in this episode, I'm like "my gosh...poor him for having to deal with all these dumbasses".

So, in school, Haru has these two teachers who I totally find really annoying. No, scratch that. They are beyond annoying, they're a pain in the ass and a true example of certain groups in society who uphold their own beliefs the wrong way.
Photobucket
Regarding the rumor circling around in school about Haru and Kenji, the teachers questioned Haru and warned her not to get too close with him. IF the IS issue surfaces, then it'll cause chaos among the students and Haru might not be able to continue in the school.

I won't call that as advice or warning. It's more like threatening to me!!! What kind of teachers do that? When Haru first came, I still remember the female teacher being all supportive and acting like she cared. And the next thing you know, she's getting freaked out by the thoughts of IS body features?!

Photobucket
Haru could've complained for being cornered like this. That's harassment!

3.Crisis between Natsu and the nosy neighours

the three telltales of the neighbourhood

I do feel sorry for Natsu having to endure such people who practically watch them grow up. Yes, I'd understand how they'll be gossiping around if a person you thought was a boy, and then wore a skirt. But you don't do that in broad daylight like this!

Photobucket
Not to mention, Natsu practically has to avoid them! At all cost!

4. Miwa's war at home
Miwa's constant struggle with the mother who by now is a certified psychopath, is such a sad thing to watch. Her mother just can't accept the fact that IS just exists for reasons still unexplained, and instead of seeing it as a blessing, she sees it as a punishment for her past wrongdoings. How can you say your child is a punishment? That was totally messed up. I'm amazed by Miwa's strength to endure a mother like this till now.

Photobucket
Miwa is fooled by her mother who at first tells her that she doesn't need to go for any surgery. When she thinks that she's finally released by the short leash, she finds herself being cheated by her mother who used lies to get her to the hospital for the vaginal construction examination.

Someone please send her to the mental institution ASAP!!!~

5. Miwa x Leon
Leon is one character I adore very much. When Miwa asks him to meet up, the innocent face is like priceless!
Photobucket
such grin!

Lol at him at the hotel!~ Omg...you know at once you can never go wrong with a guy like this xD
Photobucket
Miwa meets up with him at the hotel, after arguing with her mother earlier. As usual, she finds somewhere else to stay the night whenever she doesn't feel like going back home. Leon's lucky to spend the night with her haha...(no dirty thoughts here!)

I think the part where Miwa asks whether Leon ever feels weird having Haru as a friend because he's IS is Leon's shining moment. He's such a wonderful friend to Haru! He actually defends Haru and feels upset that Miwa thinks of Haru that way. I'm just waiting for the scene where he finds out that Miwa too is an IS.

6. Miwa's confession
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't waiting for this lolz...(anyone who's read the manga should already know). Which is why I really like this episode! So many things happening!

Photobucket
"Keep on living the way you are, Haru" - Miwa

Finally, we get to see Miwa confessing her feelings for Haru. Now, before that, she tells him that she's decided to go for the surgery. She's tired of having to argue with her mother and if that pleases her, then she'll do it. Despite Haru's advice not to do it as she might regret it later, Miwa is still adamant with her decision. I wonder what Leon's reaction will be if she hears those words from Miwa? I'm not entirely sure whether Miwa likes Haru like a boy-girl relationship though, or it's just that she looks up to Haru and being her role model? Please share your thoughts in the comment section! I wanna hear what you guys think.

7. Haru's resolution
I'm waiting for this for such a long time too. Haru finally decides to reveal her secret to everybody at school and talk about the existence of IS. Way to go Haru!~

Photobucket
It's funny how Usami becomes someone Haru finds help from haha...apparently she's in the broadcasting club in school. She lends the key to Haru and you should know by now what he's planning to do. We'll have to wait for next episode to watch how it goes down. Should be pretty epic!

One of the most emotional scenes in the episode is definitely where Haru tells her decision to her family.
Photobucket
This is one of those moments whereby you feel so much respect for the individual for having such courage to deal with his/her issues, especially things like these. Such heart-warming scene watching Haru's family for being sooooo supportive!

Photobucket
Before morning comes, Haru decides to tell Miwa and Kenji beforehand. This causes Miwa to go to school the next morning but is stopped by her mother. Meanwhile, Haru tells Kenji that they'll not meet again and if anyone asks whether they were going out before, he should just tell them that he was asking about his secret.

Photobucket
I was half-expecting Haru to just tell Kenji right there and then about IS. But he didn't. Slightly disappointed that Kenji will have to wait till the morning broadcast to find out. Well, I'm sure it's for the sake of cliffhanger for the episode.

Photobucket
Thoughts:
How many parts were there? Lolzz...did I miss anything? Hope not. Anyways, such a wonderful episode. I was thinking the last 2 episodes were bit draggy, but this episode brings me back to full throttle. HAHA! Episode 8 will be showing tonight and I can't wait to see it tomorrow (if d-addicts have it by tomorrow that is). So many emotional scenes in this one, but if I were to choose, it'll definitely be where Haru tells her family about her decision. Hands down! This episode deserves this rating: 9/10

PIC SPAM...xD
not much though

Photobucket
Leon!!!~ What I'd give to have such a wonderful friend!

  1. I personally think that Miwa likes Haru as a friend and looks up to her as a role model because there were times where Miwa told Haru that she wished she was brave as her. I think Miwa gained a little bit of confidence in herself from Haru's perspective of being an IS. As for if Miwa likes Haru as a boy-girl relationship, I really don't know, since I don't see any romantic tensions between those two.

  2. Yeah, I do think she looks up to her too xD I'm rooting for Leon x Miwa haha I really hope they can be happy together, as for Haru and Kenji (not too sure, it depends on how Haru feels). Man...it's really getting interesting how it'll turn out in the upcoming eps.
