IS - Otoko demo Onna demo Nai Sei [ep 4]

Update: thanks to Kotatsufansubz from d-addicts who makes the sub for ep4, I'm able to understand certain parts I didn't get before. So I edited some stuffs below.xD

As usual, I couldn't wait and watched this without subs. (Forgive me if I get some info wrong). Last week's episode ended when Haru found Miwako with her wrist slit in her bedroom and the revelation: She is an IS individual too. At the hospital, she explained to Haru how she only found about a year ago when her period never came. She was raised as a girl right from young and her parents treated her as one, so she had no idea about her true condition till she began to realize something's wrong with her body. And finally, after looking into one of the medical reports her mother had hidden from her, she found out the truth about herself.

In fact, if you still remember the 2nd episode where she helped Haru at the washroom...the part where she told him that her period for the month hasn't come, she was lying. In reality, it still hasn't come though her mother had been feeding her female hormones. It is an irony when you think about it. Haru never want to become a girl, he prefers being a boy, yet his body is becoming more and more feminine by the day, while Miwako wants very much to be a normal female, but she has to rely on female hormones. So, when she was told by Haru that she is an IS, she felt really happy that in this world, there's someone similar with her and shared such an important secret.

After the hospitalization, Miwako decided to visit Haru's house for a change, she didn't want to return home just yet. And GUESS WHO WAS AT THE STATION? yes, forgive the caps, I was excited when I saw Leon xDD He was of course surprised to see Miwako meeting with Haru at the station. It was really funny when he saw Miwako waving to someone, his hopes crushed and thought that such pretty girl  would've had a boyfriend, and when he turned to see who she was waving at, it was Haru!
LMAO

Before meeting Haru's parents, Haru warned her to not be surprised/shocked. Lolz...

Can someone please explain what are these bunch of obaasan doing?
Of course, Miwako was kinda surprised with the family. So much happier and merrier than hers. And they never treat Haru differently, instead, they still make fun of him having to pretend/act like a girl at school.

Miwako asked Haru's mother how can they act casual/normal having a child who is IS. I like how Haru's mother answered the question. She told Miwako that's because Haru is Haru and wherever he goes, whatever he does, his family will not change their attitude towards her (if I wasn't wrong in translating) .Miwako couldn't agree with that thought and left in a hurry. When Haru caught up with her, Miwa told him that she thought Haru was really courageous but it only only because his whole life, the family has been there and accepted who he is. So he won't understand Miwa's feelings being in a family that doesn't accept IS.
EDIT: and she told Haru that it's better not to tell anyone about being an IS.

Haru then decided to go home together with Miwako. At home, to Miwako's surprise, Haru told her mother that he is IS too. The thing with Haru is that, he doesn't like to keep secrets like these. I guess he's the type who wants people to accept them for who they are, and not run away from the prejudice of the public.

Then, Miwako's mother blamed the suicide and the changes in her daughter's attitude on Haru. She felt that Haru had somehow influenced Miwako to act rebelliously lately. (I couldn't understand parts of the conversation between her and Haru, though, shall wait for subs to fully get this scene). She told him to not influence her further. After getting that kind answer from Miwako's mother, Haru felt saddened over the issue. On the way home, he met Kenji. And finally he broke down. It was nice of Kenji to lend her his back lol...when pedestrians are noticing.

EDIT: Apparently, it was Miwako's father who heard from somebody that Haru is an IS at the school, so he told Miwako and she wanted to change into that school to meet Haru. (I didn't see this coming lol). Then, at school, the teacher asked Haru to change clothes at the girls' changing room, and not going elsewhere or avoid the girls when it comes to changing because it'll attract suspicions.Furthermore the male teacher told Haru directly that to act like a girl is one of the conditions for him to stay in this school.

Thought: wow...what a discrimination there! I mean, yes he has to be a girl in the school, but seriously they should also understand his feelings! Some people may not be comfortable showing off their body like others, and when it comes to Haru's case, I just thought they should have been more understanding.

Someone's pissed...

I can't wait for more Haru/Miwa and Haru/Kenji scenes! and please please please...MORE LEON SCENES PLEASE!!!~ Pity him for having only 1 short scene every episode.

Thoughts:
Since I watched this without subs, I couldn't fully get certain parts. I shall watch again after the subs are out. The episode, again, great episode. It focuses more on Miwa's story, and I like the background they gave her in the beginning, it gives us more insight into her earlier life before she found out the truth. So the character develops better. I also like how Haru always protects her and supports her, well...since they're both the same, only both will understand what they're going through. Haru is stronger in the sense that he has a really supportive family and really want people to know the truth. However, it's also nice to see that he is only human in this episode when he broke down. There's always a limit to what people can take. Anyways, I'm curious of coming episodes *becoz in the manga* there shall be more Haru/Miwa/Kenji/Leon scenes. Rating: 8/10 (yeah, the same as last xD)

Just something to ponder. I wonder how many people in this world know about IS (intersexual). It seems to  be a topic that doesn't get discussed much, resulting in it becoming sorta like a taboo and then the public just couldn't accept anybody else different than they are. I mean, it's not like these IS individuals wanted to be born with both gender characteristics, and then getting stuck in between, making them genderless. That said, I really hope more people will come to know about this term and this drama is a good start xD This is not something you come across every day. It's a great eye-opener.

Lastly here they are promoting the manga itself!

P.S. By the way, can they release Hilchryme's Personal Colour song earlier? Because I really want to hear the full song now! It's really getting more and more addictive everytime it plays at the end of the episodes.

  1. I just came across your blog while looking for this wonderful dorama pictures and it is quite interesting! :) This is the best dorama of the season for me, I find the story quite intriguing. I love both Miwako and Haru, I think both actresses portrayed their characters quite well. Miwako is just too cute! I hope subs come out soon (as well as episode 5). -Barbara
